6/21 Where are the runs?

The 7 game win streak was great.  I was fine with a loss yesterday, because you have to lose a game eventually.  But in the last 3 games the Yankees have scored 4 runs.  The 4 games before that, 37.  4 runs in 3 games is unacceptable, and if the Yankees want to go deep this season, they need to start doing whatever it was they were doing during the 7 game win streak.  But 7-2 in your last 9 is good, but let’s not make this a losing streak.

In other news, 495 MLB Players were surveyed for a Sports Illustrated pole, a pole to see who they thought was the most overrated player in baseball.  10% of the 495 said Derek Jeter, the most votes any player received.

Jealousy.  There is no possible way to argue that Derek Jeter is overrated.  Game 7 of the World Series, your team is down by 1 run, runners on 2nd and 3rd.  I pick Derek Jeter to be at the plate.  A-Rod will most certainly strikeout, because his hits only come at no-pressure situations.  I pick Jeter because he has already proven himself to be a clutch player.  Players want to be Jeter.  He lives in New York, he plays for the Yankees, he has a 21 million dollar paycheck, he’s got it all.  Curiously, Jeter finished 2nd in a MLB Players Poll for the player that you would build a team around.

What do you think?

Tonight’s game breaks Yankees losing streak.

Well after losing three games in a row, Mussina led the Yankees to victory tonight.  This was one of his best outings that I have ever seen, allowing just one run in 6 innings while walking a total of 1 batter(s).

No (s) needed.  Everything about Mussina was good tonight.  The whole team looked good tonight, really.

Jeter got himself a record setting hit, #2,416 of his career.  Even so, he only went 1-4, and I think it would be premature to say that he is out of his slump.  Abreu, who has quietly fallen into somewhat of a slump, went 0-3 with a walk, but scored a run while leaving 4 men on base.  A[overrated]-Rod was only able to get 1 hit in 4 at bats.  Matsui had a good game though, 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.  He is really carrying this team on his shoulders, offensively.

But I make it sound worse than it really was.  Overall they got 12 hits, and provided a good amount of run support.  Let’s hope that they can do the same tomorrow for Wang.

The one stat that really bothers me is this.  The Yankees left 16 men on base this game.  I don’t want to go on about stats, but isn’t that a little bit pathetic?  Rodriguez needs to start producing in the clutch, it seems he can only produce when they don’t need it, it is either a blowout win or a blowout loss.  But with runners on 1st and 3rd, 2 outs, and the Yankees down by 2 runs, if Rodriguez comes up, I concede the game.  He just doesn’t do anything for me.  Please correct me if I am wrong, and I hope that Rodriguez will prove me wrong.
